The Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs has confirmed that the ‘Denton Park Estate’, ‘Ure Dales’ and ‘Heart of the Dales’ projects in Skipton and Ripon have been awarded funding through the second round of the Landscape Recovery scheme.
Landscape Recovery is one of the three Environmental Land Management schemes available to farmers in England as we continue the transition away from direct payments to the new funding style.
It funds long-term, large-scale, bespoke projects designed to enhance the natural environment and deliver significant environmental benefits alongside the sustainable production of food.
In total, thirty-four projects have been successful in the second round of the scheme, nine more than initially intended when the scheme opened in May, and they will now receive a share of around £25 million in project development funding.
Between them, the thirty-four projects will support over 200,000 hectares of nature and sustainable food production, restore more than 35,000 hectares of peatland, sustainably manage over 20,000 hectares of woodland, and benefit more than 160 protected sites.
Julian Smith said, “It’s fantastic news that these projects have been awarded the necessary funding in this latest round of the Landscape Recovery scheme.
“We have a brilliant rural environment here in Skipton and Ripon and our farmers understand their responsibility to the land they farm. It’s crucial we back them with the necessary support.”
