The Craven Museum, located inside Skipton Town Hall, has been shortlisted for the Art Fund Museum of the Year Award 2024 – the world’s largest museum prize.
The award will be given in the National Gallery in London tonight where The Craven Museum will go head-to-head with four competitors, amongst them the Manchester Museum and the National Portrait Gallery.
Art Fund annually shortlists five outstanding museums for Museum of the Year. The 2024 edition recognises inspiring projects with audiences and communities at their heart – with a particular focus on community engagement, sustainable ways of working, and reinventing what it means to be ‘the best’ museum for the audiences of today and tomorrow.
The winning museum will receive £120,000 and £15,000 will be given to each of the four other finalists, bringing the total prize money to £180,000.
Julian Smith said, “The Craven Museum is a cultural treasure trove and I’m really pleased that the Art Fund have recognised this.”
“It’s great to see such an emphasis put on community engagement.”
“If you haven’t already done so, it’s well worth a visit and, in the meantime, we wish them the best of luck ahead of the award ceremony this evening.”
