Today, 17 September, Skipton and Ripon MP, Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE, met with students from Kildwick CofE VC Primary School and Upper Wharfedale School in Parliament.
Julian met with Kildwick School from Keighley, West Yorkshire in Westminster Hall following their tour of the Palace of Westminster led by Parliament’s education team. Later in the day Julian met with Upper Wharfedale School from Threshfield, North Yorkshire for a Q&A session in Parliament’s Education Centre.
During the Q&A students asked Julian his opinion on banning smoking in beer gardens, what he loves and hates in his job and his plans to improve bus routes in rural areas.
Commenting Julian said: “It was great to meet with students from Kildwick and Upper Wharfedale schools today. Students from both schools asked some great questions and I am always pleased to see so many young people interested in politics and how our government works.
“Parliament’s education service does an excellent job of engaging students and teachers organising tours of the Palace, offering workshops, teacher training sessions and hosting learning competitions.
“I encourage teachers, students and parents to explore the possibility of arranging a school or class tour. You can learn more at www.parliament.uk/educationcentre. Many schools in our area are eligible for a travel subsidy due to our distance from Parliament."
