On Friday, Julian met with Luke Mortimer to present him with his Point of Light award.
Luke, aged ten, is the Prime Minister’s 2,238th Point of Light, awarded to outstanding individual volunteers who have contributed exceptionally to their community.
When he was just seven, Luke became a quadruple amputee after contracting meningococcal meningitis septicaemia. He has since raised over £26,000 for Children in Need and LimbPower by climbing 656ft up Embsay Crag.
At their meeting, however, Luke made it clear he had no plans to stop there, as he eyes up the Yorkshire and National 3 Peaks challenges later this year.
Julian Smith said, “Luke is a hugely impressive young man. His determination in the face of such extraordinary adversity is an example to all of us. Spending time with him and his family was a real privilege, and I know everyone will be pulling for him when he goes on to his next challenge, whatever that may be.”
