On Friday Julian Smith MP met with County Councillor John Fort and Harrogate Borough Councillor Christine Ryder today to discuss the latest update on the closure at Kex Gill. While bad weather delayed work last week, the recent cold, dry weather has meant that good progress has been made this week on drainage work on the steep slope.
The contractor is now working within the slip zone of the hillside where drainage connections will be made to the watercourse on the hillside. In addition to this, work has commenced on the strengthening and drainage work at the bottom of the slope near the A59. In order to gain access to the area, a temporary ramp and retaining wall is being built on part of the A59 and following that large rocks and stone infill will be laid on and behind the existing wall.
The council expects that the work will be completed within the revised seven and a half weeks and is due to finish in the week commencing 7 March.
