Kettlewell County Primary School, located in the heart of Upper Wharfedale, celebrated the official opening of its newly developed outdoor area named 'Carradice Garden' today, 4 October, honouring the school’s first teacher who taught at the school 140 years ago.
Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP joined the school community to unveil a plaque marking the special occasion and officially open the garden. The newly landscaped garden includes a kitchen garden area complete with fruit trees and a pond, offering an outdoor learning environment for pupils.
Julian along with school governors, the school’s Headteachers, local families and the gardener who sculpted the space joined pupils at the unveiling ceremony.
Commenting, Julian said, "It was a privilege to open this wonderful new garden at Kettlewell County Primary School. Carradice Garden will provide students with a beautiful outdoor space to enjoy and learn from, while also recognising the history and heritage of the school and its first teacher.
“I am pleased to see the school, which was under threat when I first became the MP for Skipton and Ripon 14 years ago, continues to go from strength to strength and that is thanks to the hard work and dedication of the excellent teachers, headteachers and support staff and engaged parent governor team.”
