Julian Smith MP has welcomed the announcement that the Government will invest £4,680,000 in Skipton as part of the Growth Deal programme’s third round of funding. The York, North Yorkshire and East Riding Growth Deal is focused on attracting investment, delivering more and better jobs, higher productivity, and more homes.
This new round of funding for Skipton will lead to the creation of a new link road to facilitate the development of a number of sites for housing and employment; a range of capital works to improve connectivity between these sites, the town centre and principal transport hubs; and the creation of a prospectus to stimulate additional private sector investment in the re-development of an area surrounding Skipton Railway Station and to enable continuous economic growth.
A further £4,000,000 of Government funding for the area will go towards a Skills Funding Programme, which will support eight projects across the region, including Craven College’s Aireville Engineering Provision project.
Julian Smith MP said: ‘I have been campaigning hard for this funding and it is great news for our area and Craven in particular. I welcome the Government’s continued commitment to the North Powerhouse - this strategy will ensure we are backing business in Skipton and Ripon, delivering jobs, providing more homes and giving our children the skills they need to succeed.’
