Julian Smith MP visited Gouthwaite Reservoir, near Pateley Bridge, to see the important safety improvements that Yorkshire Water is carrying out at a cost of £7 million.
Engineering specialists are building a new overflow collection channel on the reservoir dam and the work is due to end by summer of 2018. The overflow structure is used to let water into the River Nidd in a controlled way after a storm. The capacity of the current overflow needs to be increased to improve reservoir safety.
Julian Smith said: ‘I am pleased to see this work being done following the checks carried out on the dam and that Yorkshire Water is enacting the resulting recommendations. The integrity of this dam is vital for the safety of residents in the Pateley Bridge area and even as far as Knaresborough.’
