Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP visited Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal on Thursday, 13 February, to show his support for the National Trust's plans to enhance the historic estate.
During his visit, Julian met with Justin Scully, General Manager of Fountains Abbey and Brimham Rocks, to discuss the proposed improvements. The £4.6 million plans, recommended for approval by North Yorkshire Council, for the Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal estate include improvements to the water garden area and an expansion of the café. Additionally, the scheme includes upgrades to the entrance to enhance accessibility.
Julian expressed his support for the project, stating, "Fountains Abbey and Studley Royal are important parts of our heritage. The National Trust's plans will not only preserve the beauty and history of this site, but also improve the visitor experience. I am pleased to support these efforts and look forward to seeing the positive impact they will have on visitors.
