Julian Smith MP was in Glasshouses last Saturday afternoon for a ‘Countryside at Risk’ day of action that was organized by The Church in the Dale, a group formed of the churches in the Nidderdale Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. This was a family event to highlight the dangers of climate change to such beautiful, local areas. Those attending the event were keen to hear Mr Smith’s thoughts on the Government’s approach to dealing with these issues, especially in light of the Prime Minister’s announcement that the UK will ratify the Parish climate change accords this year.
Mr Smith discussed a range of issues with those who were at the meeting covering fracking, carbon emissions, wildlife crime and the Paris climate conference in December 2015.
Julian Smith MP said: “I am grateful to The Church in the Dale for inviting me to take part in their event, raising awareness and seeking to protect the beautiful countryside which we are fortunate enough to be surrounded by. We had people of all ages and from around the area coming together to discuss some very interesting and important matters and I enjoyed being able to contribute to the event.”
