Recently Julian Smith met with the Head of Weddings at the Coniston Hotel, Katie Flanagan, to discuss the case for celebrants to be able to do the role of council registrars and ensure weddings do not have to be broken up between ceremony and official marriage registration.
The Law Commission of England and Wales recently published its recommendations for the reform of wedding law, aiming to create a fairer system that provides couples with greater choice over where and how they celebrate their marriage.
The proposed reform seeks to introduce a more flexible and inclusive framework for weddings. Couples would have the freedom to choose the location, timing, officiant, format and could even include a mix of traditional, modern and religious elements.
Commenting on this meeting Julian said, "It was great to visit the Coniston Hotel again - their wedding business is incredibly successful and Katie made a strong case for reform of the marriage registration rules to allow celebrants to deliver an even better wedding experience".
