Julian has received a special award for working to help secure the historic cut in beer duty in last year’s Budget.
The ‘Beer Champions’ title was a joint initiative from the British Beer & Pub Association (BBPA), Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA) and the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) all of whom wanted to recognize the role of MPs who supported the scrapping of the Beer Duty Escalator, which lead to the cut in Beer Duty.
Julian has been supporting brewing and the pub industry given its importance to the Skipton and Ripon constituency. He said:
“Last year’s cut in the duty on beer was hugely important in sending a message of support to the brewing and pub industry across the country and especially here in rural North Yorkshire.
“Our pubs are at the heart of our communities and our brewers make some of the best beers in the world so I will continue to support efforts in Parliament to ensure they have a strong future.”
Mike Benner, Chief Executive of CAMRA, added:
“This reward recognises Julian Smith for his invaluable support in the campaign to scrap the beer duty escalator. MPs really helped in drawing attention to the harm caused by tax increases totalling 42 per cent over four years.”
