Julian has written to North Yorkshire’s Police and Crime Commissioner and called on her to block proposals to close the custody suite at Skipton police station.
In his letter to Julia Mulligan, Mr Smith says:
“To move the police cells from Skipton to Harrogate would, I believe, have a major impact on our local capacity to deal effectively and efficiently with suspects. As with the proposal to move the Magistrates’ Court in 2010, moving services to Harrogate would have a significant impact on policing, suspects, and family members and serious consequences for local justice in Craven. I therefore do not consider the closure of Skipton’s police cells to be in the public interest.”
