Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP visited the Wild Explorers holiday club on the Broughton Hall Estate near Skipton on Tuesday , 31 December, where he met with owner Katie Fox and toured the woodland-based activity site.
Wild Explorers, part of the FEAST (Food, Entertainment, Arts, Sport, Together) programme, provides a variety of engaging activities, including den building, nature crafts, and campfire cooking, all within a safe and inclusive environment. The FEAST programme is provided by North Yorkshire Together, commissioned by North Yorkshire Council and funded by the Department for Education.
Following the visit, Julian praised the initiative and the FEAST programme, which aims to provide fun, enriching activities for children and young people during the school holidays.
Julian said: “It is fantastic to see initiatives like Wild Explorers offering children the chance to connect with nature, build confidence, and learn new skills. Programmes like these are vital for children’s well-being, especially during the holidays. I encourage parents and carers to explore the wide range of FEAST activities available across North Yorkshire. It is an excellent resource for families to ensure their children stay active and engaged.”
The Wild Explorers holiday club is just one of many activities supported by the FEAST programme, which offers opportunities for children to stay active, learn, and enjoy nutritious food during school breaks.
