Julian has welcomed the latest figures showing that the number of people claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance (JSA) across the constituency continues to fall.
There are now 426 people claiming JSA in the Skipton and Ripon constituency. This represents a fall of 39 per cent in the last year and 62 per cent since 2010.
In total, across the UK, a record 30.8 million people are now in work, up by 1.75 million since the last election. The new figures also show regular pay rising by 1.8 per cent on the year, and private sector pay up 2.2 per cent – well ahead of inflation.
Julian said:
“It is positive news that the number of those claiming Jobseekers’ Allowance continues to fall and that wages are increasing. It’s a clear sign that the Government’s long-term economic plan is working, delivering a more financially secure future for families.
“Businesses across Skipton and Ripon continue to work hard to create jobs and grow our economy and I hope the better infrastructure and lower jobs taxes which have been introduced support them to do even more of this in the future.”
