On Thursday, 19 September, Skipton and Ripon MP, Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE, visited Brimham Rocks located around 11 miles southwest of Ripon.
Julian took a tour around the site with Justin Scully, National Trust General Manager and Jen Taylor, Brimham’s Operations Manager to discuss the recent introduction of cattle grazing on the moor, the National Trust’s work with local schools and their partnership with the Ilkley poetry festival.
Commenting on his visit Julian said: “I encourage everyone and their families from across North Yorkshire to visit Brimham Rocks. It is the most incredible place to visit with its great facilities, excellent walks and it is another example of a National Trust property bringing employment and boosting the tourism economy in our area.
“Thank you to Justin and Jen for showing me around, it was great to learn about the history of the site dating back over 300 million years. I was pleased to hear about their work with local schools and the benefits sites like Brimham Rocks provide to young people.”
