Drivers in Yorkshire and the Humber will benefit from a £123 million investment to repair potholes and improve road safety, announced last week, 20 December, by the Department for Transport (DfT).
Part of a £1.6 billion national boost to road maintenance, this funding will allow local councils to target roads most in need of repair. According to the DfT, the funding is expected to fix over seven million potholes in 2025/26.
Yorkshire and the Humber councils, including the City of York, East Riding of Yorkshire, North Yorkshire, and South and West Yorkshire Combined Authorities, will each receive a share.
Road users are encouraged to report potholes in their area through a dedicated Gov.uk page.
Commenting, Skipton and Ripon MP, Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE said: “I welcome the Government’s funding announcement to help repair roads in our region. I will work closely with local government to ensure that this funding addresses the pressing road maintenance issues across our very rural area and delivers real improvements for local communities.”
