Applications are now open for a new £60 million fund to support public facilities with swimming pools in England.
Julian has welcomed the news, outlined in a letter from the Minister for Sport, Gambling and Civil Society, that this fund will directly support pools, safeguarding their future and ensuring their financial sustainability.
Sport England will lead the distribution of grants following applications from Local Authorities responsible for leisure provision. Charity, community and Local Authority-run pools will all be eligible to apply for funding, which will be delivered in two parts.
First, over £20 million will be distributed to pools as targeted support for those facing utility cost pressures as a result of the war in Ukraine. This will be followed up by a second round of funding, worth £40 million, which will be invested in energy efficiency measures for pools and leisure centres, reducing future operating costs.
Applications for Phase I are now open and can be made until the end of July, with funding delivered in September. Details for Phase II will be published on the Sport England website in due course.
