On Tuesday 21 July, Julian Smith MP met with the Chairman of North Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Authority, John Fort, the Chief Executive Nigel Hutchinson and the Head of Risk Management, Owen Hayward to discuss the Fire Cover Review Consultation that the authority has recently launched.
The review will be the first since the 1990s and will be looking at making sure the services are appropriate for the current requirements. Julian was told that in recent years there has been a reduction in risk and incidents which has led the authority to consider restructuring its operational resources to reflect this. There have been two proposals put forward for the Ripon Fire Station, both of which will mean changes.
The public will be able to comment on these proposals via a public survey at www.northyorksfire.gov.uk. There are also drop in events being held in Ripon on Wednesday 9 September at the Arts Hall in Ripon Leisure Centre and on 7 October in the Council Chamber at Ripon Town Hall. Both events will be open between 3pm and 7pm for people to find out more about the proposals. If any constituent would like Julian to make additional representations please write or email him.
