Julian Smith MP has thanked the Emergency Services, local councils, volunteers and community groups for all the work they have done to protect local communities from recent flooding.
He said 'The effort across my constituency and North Yorkshire to help people threatened by flooding has been incredible - many people have worked 24/7 to protect communities and to ensure that the correct steps are in place in the event of further flooding this week. From North Yorkshire Fire Service, the County Council, Craven and Harrogate councils to Parish Councils, the Police, voluntary groups and businesses there has been a huge effort to help people deal with the consequences of these recent unprecedented levels of rain'
The MP has held conversations with Liz Truss, Secretary of State for Environment, the Chief Executive of the Environment Agency and Greg Clark, Secretary of State for Communities to ensure that the best possible support for his constituency and North Yorkshire more widely is in place should there be further flooding this week.
'Central Government and local agencies are working closely together to ensure we are in a strong position for the coming days. I am closely in touch with all relevant organisations and will help ensure they have everything they need to keep people across Craven and the rural districts of Harrogate safe'.
