Julian Smith, Member of Parliament for Skipton and Ripon, has welcomed the announcement made by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government, Greg Clark MP, that as part of a four year financial settlement which will transform the relationship between central and local government, councils will receive £300 million in transitional funding over the next two years.
North Yorkshire County Council will receive additional funding from central government of £9.18 million in 2016/17 and an extra £6.03 million in 2017/18 compared with the provisional settlement.
Harrogate Borough Council will receive additional funding from central government of £373,362 in 2016/17 and an extra £282,152 in 2017/18 compared with the provisional settlement.
Craven District Council will receive additional funding from central government of £230,290 in 2016/17 and an extra £124,806 in 2017/18 compared with the provisional settlement.
Crucially for Skipton and Ripon, the settlement recognises the particular costs of providing services in spare rural areas.
Julian Smith MP said: ‘I and other North Yorkshire MPs have campaigned hard over the past few weeks to encourage the best possible settlement for our rural area given the constraints our country faces financially. I welcome the Government's strong commitment to rural areas and the additional money for our area.'
