Julian Smith MP was pleased to visit the Google Digital Garage at Skipton Castle recently.
Google Digital Garage is touring market towns to offer training in digital skills to small and medium sized business, community groups, and individuals.
Market towns are facing increasing challenges due to competition from, supermarkets, large shopping centres, outlet stores and online retailers. Google Digital Garage has, therefore, been created to encourage market towns, and to educate those that live and work in them, to use digital technologies and the opportunities these present to not only level the playing field but to push ahead.
The event held in Skipton for the first time offered specific support for local market traders, including tailored training courses in skills such as, social media strategy, creating a digital marketing plan, and how to make your stall more visible online.
Julian Smith MP said: ‘I am delighted that the Google Digital Garage visited Skipton. It is a great innovation that offers small and medium sized businesses the chance to learn digital skills, tailor-made for their businesses.
I particularly welcome its focus on more rural areas like ours; it follows up on the excellent work Superfast North Yorkshire have already done to improve connectivity in our area.’
