Julian Smith MP has welcomed the news that Theresa May is to be the next Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. She will take over from David Cameron this Wednesday following Prime Minister's Questions.
Julian Smith said: 'I am delighted that Theresa May will be our next Prime Minister. She is in a different league and will make a brilliant leader for our country. Throughout the leadership contest, she demonstrated that she was the most experienced, proven and focussed candidate and I am confident that she will be a strong voice for our country in the coming months and years as we negotiate our exit from the European Union.
'I would also like to pay tribute to David Cameron as he steps down as Prime Minister and Leader of the Conservative Party. He has made the Conservatives a modern and forward thinking party through social reforms, the same-sex marriage bill, and modernising our education system. Britain is a more prosperous nation since David Cameron took over as Prime Minister: there are more people in work than ever before and through tax cuts, we have ensured that hard-working people keep more of the money they earn.
'I wish Theresa May the very best as she takes over as Prime Minister and builds on the work outstanding work of David Cameron.'
