Julian has visited a Ripon business which has benefited from a loan from the government-backed Start Up Loans Company.
The Rolling Pin Café is run by Karen Hotham. She opened the café with the help of a loan from the Company after deciding to turn her dream of owning and running her own business into reality. Her focus was to have somewhere that prided itself on sourcing fresh and seasonal local produce.
The scheme is a £310 million initiative that provides help in the form of a repayable loan alongside a business mentor that supports entrepreneurs as they start their companies. Over £434,000 has been provided to start-ups across the constituency.

“Start-up loans provide important financial support to entrepreneurs turning their business visions into a reality and I was encouraged to hear the positive experience of those who have benefited from them. The economic recovery is being driven by small businesses, like those I met in Ripon, and I am pleased these Government-backed loans are helping them start and then grow their companies.”
