In the run up to the summer recess, it was a busy month in both the Constituency and Westminster.
In Boroughbridge, Julian met with a group of lowland, local farmers, as well as NFU North East, to hear about the current issues facing farmers in the local area. There was a wide range of discussion on the Agricultural Transition Plan, along with the rollout of the Environmental Land Management Schemes. This focused on food security and the importance of domestic food production as well as environmental protection. Julian will continue to engage very closely with the local community as well as parliamentary and ministerial colleagues on these schemes.
In Ripon, Julian met with Dean John Dobson of Ripon Cathedral to discuss the Cathedral’s plans for the future. Julian was interested to see and discuss the Ripon Cathedral Renewed Project, which aims to provide new, updated facilities for the Cathedral’s parishioners, choristers and visitors. Dean John explained to Julian that the development included a new café, meeting room and a better facility for the choir school to rehearse in. Julian looks forward to seeing how these plans develop.
Julian thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to test out the two new Padel courts at Ripon Tennis Centre. Padel is a racquet sport, a form of tennis, which is easy to play and suitable for all ages and abilities. The centre recently raised the funding to build both a covered and outdoor court.
In Parliament, Julian met with Year 5 from Water Street Primary School. They had some excellent questions and it was great to see that they are interested in tackling local issues, such as littering in nearby areas.
At the end of the month, Julian welcomed Rishi Sunak and Conservative members from across North Yorkshire to the Black Sheep Brewery in Masham, there was really great feedback from all who heard Rishi speak. After the meeting Julian and Rishi visited Bah Humbugs to get Rishi stocked up with sugar supplies for the campaign trail!
Julian continues to hold surgeries on a regular basis and has held surgeries across the constituency and via the telephone this month. To book a surgery appointment, please email or call the office, including the details of the matters you wish to raise.
