Julian has welcomed the latest update from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs, launching Round I of the Species Survival Fund and confirming that North Yorkshire Council’s funding to help prepare the Local Nature Recovery Strategy will be the highest in the country.
North Yorkshire Council has been awarded £388,000 to prepare a localised, tailored strategy to support and recover nature, using local expertise from across the area. Working closely with farmers, landowners and managers, North Yorkshire Council will coordinate practical and targeted measures to help recover nature as part of the Government’s Environmental Improvement Plan.
The Council will then be supported in delivering the proposals through financial incentives, local delivery partners and the requirements on public bodies. This localised approach means local communities will have greater autonomy to identify areas needing additional resources and maximise the environmental benefits.
This news comes on top of the launch of the opening round of funding for the Species Survival Fund, totalling £25 million and targeted towards environmental charities, voluntary organisations, local authorities, national parks and eligible farmers. The fund will support the creation and restoration of wildlife-rich habitats, including on protected sites.
