Last week, Julian met with Friends of The Crown Ltd, a company formed in the aftermath of the decision by Admiral Taverns to sell The Crown Inn, Grewelthorpe, to find out more about their proposal for community ownership.
The Crown Inn, which was closed in February but – as an Asset of Community Value – is under a six-month moratorium before it can be sold, is at the centre of a community effort to buy and restore the pub.
In a survey conducted by Friends of The Crown Ltd, over 96 per cent of the village support community ownership, with the focus now on assessing the value of the building and its redevelopment, alongside garnering financial support to place a bid when the moratorium ends in September.
Julian took the opportunity to find out more about the company’s proposals and what community ownership would mean for the village, as well as some of the challenges Friends of The Crown Ltd are facing.
