Four football clubs across Skipton and Ripon have been awarded grants as part of the Multi-Sport Grassroots Fund.
Nidd United Junior Football Club, Darley Dynamites FC, Carleton Sports Club FC and Craven Wanderers will share in £93 million across 2023/24 with over 1,100 other projects across the country.
The Multi-Sport Grassroots Fund will help fund facilities such as changing rooms, pavilions, 3G football turf, goalposts and floodlights, improving access to sport and physical activity for local communities.
The investment of over £320 million between 2021 and 2025 will help level-up grassroots facilities, target those communities most in need, and increase participation in sport among under-represented groups.
This comes on top of the Government’s significant investment in swimming pools, with £60 million to help provide vital support to keep pools open and help them become more sustainable, and tennis, where a £30 million investment programme with the LTA has upgraded thousands of park tennis courts across the country.
Julian Smith said, “This is great news for these local clubs. The Government are making a real investment in grassroots sports as we make significant progress towards meeting our ambitious target of 3.5 million more people active by 2030.
“I’d strongly encourage everyone to make use of the hundreds of fantastic sports clubs around Skipton and Ripon!”
