Julian has warmly welcomed the news that nearly £380 million has been allocated to York and North Yorkshire as part of the £4.7 billion Local Transport Fund, made possible thanks to reallocated HS2 funding.
It is the first transport budget of its kind that is specifically targeted at smaller cities, towns and rural areas; and empowers local people and leaders to invest in the local transport projects that matter most to their communities.
The £380 million will improve local transport connections that people rely on every day, boosting public transport, reducing congestion and upgrading local bus and train stations. In total, almost 11 million people across the North and Midlands will see nearly nine times more transport funding.
The funding will be allocated to local authorities from April 2025, giving them time to develop funding proposals and prepare to hit the ground running.
Julian Smith said, “This unprecedented investment in our local transport infrastructure will be a major boost for residents and businesses across Skipton and Ripon.
"By boosting investment in the routes and hubs that we use every day we can make a real difference to people’s lives.”
