Julian has received a letter from the Department for Science, Innovation & Technology, outlining the most recent development in the delivery of the Government’s £5 billion UK-wide Project Gigabit.
As part of this, a new £60.9 million contract with Quickline has been signed to deliver gigabit-capable broadband to up to 29,000 premises across North and West Yorkshire.
The significant investment will bring gigabit broadband to homes and businesses that would otherwise not be reached by suppliers’ commercial rollout plans, improving connectivity for some of the most rural areas and aiding residents and businesses by enabling access to all the opportunities that technology offers them.
Julian Smith said, “This is brilliant news for residents and businesses across Skipton and Ripon. Access to this lightning-fast gigabit-capable broadband in even the most rural areas will be a gamechanger as technology continues to develop at pace.
“I’m really pleased that the Government have recognised how easy it can be for some of the harder-to-reach, rural areas to be left behind. This £5 billion investment demonstrates their commitment to ensure that that does not happen.”
