This year’s #LetGirlsPlay ‘Biggest Ever Football Session’ will take place on Friday 8th March, with ambitions to beat last year’s participation record of 285,000 girls.
In 2020, the FA set a target for 75 per cent of schools to deliver equal access to football in PE lessons by 2024, which was achieved a year ahead of schedule. Outside of school, there has also been a 39 per cent increase in the number of female youth teams since 2021.
This has followed a historic eighteen months in which the Lionesses have become EURO champions and World Cup finalists.
As in previous years, the aim of the event is to get as many girls as possible to all play football on the same day in schools across the country. This could be at lunchtime, in a lesson or after school.
Schools can sign up to take part in this year’s event at: https://girlsfootballinschools.org/index.php
Julian Smith said, “This is a brilliant event that I’d strongly encourage all schools to sign up to if they haven’t already.
“What we’ve seen our Lionesses achieve over the past eighteen months are not just a series of phenomenal sporting achievements but a source of inspiration for million of girls across the country.
“It’s so important that girls can access football and other sports alongside their male counterparts; this event is a fantastic springboard in that endeavour.”
