The Yorkshire Dales National Park Authority is developing a new Local Plan for 2025–2040. So far, there have been six consultations to identify key issues and how the plan should address them.
This current consultation is focused on gathering feedback on the Authority’s preferred sites for housing development. It builds on the previous consultation which explored initial options for housing land.
Consultation seven seeks public input on:
- A shortlist of preferred housing development sites proposed for inclusion in the new Local Plan (2025–2040).
- Updated housing development boundaries and important open spaces (revised based on earlier feedback).
Further background information and details of the preferred development sites and boundaries can be found in the consultation paper here: https://tinyurl.com/3u5k5nzb.
Commenting, Skipton and Ripon MP, Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith CBE KCB, said: “I urge everyone connected to the Yorkshire Dales community to take part in this important consultation on housing within the National Park boundaries.
“This is your chance to have a say on how we balance new homes with protecting our beautiful landscape. Your input will help shape the Local Plan for the next 15 years, ensuring we meet community needs while preserving what makes this area special.
“For example I know that many people would like to see the plan address the shortage in rural affordable housing which can prevent working-age people living in the Dales and in turn poses recruitment challenges for local businesses.
“Please review the consultation paper and share your views before the consultation ends.”
You can share your views on the proposed sites, boundaries, and open spaces by emailing: [email protected] or by writing to: FREEPOST Yorkshire Dales (no address or postcode needed).
The deadline for comments is Tuesday, 29 October 2024.
Julian recently wrote to Rt Hon Angela Rayner MP, the Secretary of State for Housing, Communities and Local Government, urging a reconsideration of the size of proposed changes to the National Planning Policy Framework, which would significantly increase North Yorkshire Council's housing targets.
In his letter Julian highlighted that, with the Yorkshire Dales and North York Moors National Park Authorities forming their own local plans, North Yorkshire Council’s proposed target should be looked at again owing to unique local considerations.
