Last week, Julian visited Giggleswick School to speak to A-level politics students.
Following a brief introduction Julian fielded questions from the students, with topics ranging from his experiences as Chief Whip under Theresa May and the restoration of Stormont while Secretary of State for Northern Ireland and again more recently, to the challenges that face large, rural constituencies and how the re-allocated HS2 funding could best be spent.
Julian also met with Sam Hart, Headmaster, to discuss some of the exciting opportunities for students at Giggleswick, as well concerns around proposals to impose VAT on fees and the effect this will have on families.
Julian Smith said, “It was great to visit Giggleswick again and meet some bright and engaging students.
“I was also grateful for the chance to catch up with Sam and discuss his exciting plans for the school, but also listen to his concerns about what proposals to add VAT to fees would do to the school and the sector more widely.
"Giggleswick is not just an outstanding educational setting but a crucial local employer, playing a significant role in the wider Settle community. It’s so important that we continue to recognise the value schools like it add to our society.”
