Skipton and Ripon MP, Rt Hon Sir Julian Smith KCB CBE MP is calling on parents, carers, children, and education professionals across Skipton and Ripon to share their views on Ofsted's new proposals for education inspections and report cards.
Ofsted has launched a consultation to gather feedback on these significant changes, which aim to provide the highest standards for children and strengthen trust with professionals in the education sector.
The consultation covers inspections of early years settings, state-funded schools, non-association independent schools, further education and skills providers, and initial teacher education providers.
Key proposals include:
- A new Ofsted report card with a 5-point grading scale and brief summaries of inspectors' findings.
- Increased focus on how well schools support vulnerable and disadvantaged children, including those with special needs.
- Adding more data in inspections and reports, like student characteristics, performance, attendance, and local demographics.
- New tools to customise inspections based on the type of school, focusing on what matters most for students.
Commenting, Julian said, "This consultation is a great opportunity for our community to have a say in shaping the future of education inspections. I encourage everyone with an interest in education to participate and share their views."
The consultation will run for 12 weeks, and feedback can be provided through an online survey here.
Ofsted will also hold focus groups, carry out pilots of the new inspection approach, and conduct user testing of the new report cards.
