Supporting Young People

It is important for schools to offer strong career services so young people can choose the right path. After lobbying, I was pleased that five local schools—Grewelthorpe, Holy Trinity, Carleton Endowed, Bradleys Both, and Darley—were included in the 2024-25 Condition Improvement Fund, receiving part of £1.8 billion to improve their facilities. I will continue to push for more funding to support education in Skipton and Ripon.

Additionally, the last Government confirmed that the 2024-25 school budget will be the largest ever, with £59.6 billion allocated, a significant increase from previous years. Special Education Needs funding will rise by 34% per pupil since 2021. I also worked to secure £7.8 million for North Yorkshire to support students with special educational needs.

Last year, 540 young people in Skipton and Ripon began apprenticeships, gaining valuable skills and job opportunities. The Government also committed £60 million to fully fund apprenticeships in small businesses for those under 21. I will continue advocating for more opportunities for young people to thrive in their careers.
